Mentoring

The 100's signature program, "Mentoring The 100 Way" is the core of the organization's focus and a unique service that is unparalleled by any other mentoring technique. Our approach expands the traditional mentoring process to include group mentoring as an alternative, yet effective, way to influence our youth. Its goal is to help mentees gain the skills and confidence to be responsible for their own futures with an increasing emphasis on academic and occupational skills.

The 100 carefully screen and train chapter members to become mentors. These men give generously of their time, inspiring and motivating by example. Mentoring is a perfect example of the win-win scenario - the mentor gains a youthful perspective from the mentee, which adds value to the mentor's personal development and helps him become a better person. Our mentors go into the neighborhoods and reach young people on their own turf: where they live, work, play, and go to school. Through one-on-one relationships and group activities, these members become friends, advocates, and role models for each child yet impact of the program spreads out into the families and broader community.

"Mentoring The 100 Way" programs are delivered one-on-one or in a group environment, depending on the resources and needs of the local community. We instill in our youth a sense of cultural pride, self-confidence and competence. And with our consistent and reinforced mentoring process, we are able to build qualities and characteristics into our youth that will stay with them for life.

Through our "Men of Tomorrow (MOT)" Mentoring Program grades 5th - 12th our youth are encouraged to be healthy, educated, contributing members of our society. The MOT program operates every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. The schedule consists of seven consecutive weekends as a cluster with approximately one month between each cluster. Schedule of instructions in addition to specific cluster include math, language arts, science and social studies. Each cluster includes Reading Skills Reinforcement and Homework Assignment. Planned cultural and education field trips are part of the twenty-one week program.

  • CLUSTER I Social Interaction, Self Identity, Personal Health
  • CLUSTER II Social Responsibility, Leadership
  • CLUSTER III Economic Development

Under the authority if the 100 BMOA/GHC the mentoring program is lead by members of the 100 and volunteers. This is an example of a typically daily schedule.
